JH Robotics at Desert Ridge HS

Junior High Robotics participated in their third robotics competition at Desert Ridge High School on Saturday, February 20, 2016.  Team 6064F (which includes Faith Heinrikson and Deanna Brown), 6064G (Samuel Harris, Freddy Armer, Saul Guerrero, and Emily Barkley), and 6064H (Braxton Boliagno and Zack Stevens) all made it to the quarter-finals of the competition.  Despite all of their hard work, none of the 6064 teams made it out of the quarter-finals.

Team 6064G did have a personal best; they made 5 high goals during the first match of the quarter-finals and 4 high goals in the second match of quarter-finals. This is the most high goals scored by the Junior High teams so far this season.

Quote: “I am so extremely proud of these groups. They have worked so hard and it definitely showed today. The personal goals that were met and exceeded this afternoon were unbelievable. I look forward to seeing their continued growth in this event!”

HS Robotics at Fountain Hills

On Friday and Saturday, February 5th and 6th, 2016, at Fountain Hills High School, the North Pointe Prep Robotics teams competed in their fourth competition of the season. 

For the second time this year, team 6064, which includes members Alexis Limon, Angelica Bosquez, and Joanna Vargas, won the Sportsmanship Award. Along with obtaining the award, they passed through quarter finals, semi-finals, and finals and overall received 2nd place. 

Teams 6064, 6064C, 6064D, and 6064E all managed to place in qualifiers. 

6064B with Alton Oslund and Gabriel Aguirre received special recognition for their courteous volunteerism while constructing the playing fields.

As Ms.Gorosics says, “I am very proud of my team, especially because many joined this year, and we will continue to progress throughout the rest of the season.”

HS Robotics at AZ College Prep

On Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Arizona College Prep in Chandler , Arizona, the North Pointe Robotics high school team competed in their third competition of the season.

North Pointe Prep  showed a great increase in performance by winning a second  sportsmanship award  of the season.  The winning team of the award was  6064C which composed of Ciera Pickering , Chloe Smith, Chloe Karels, and Kendra Miller.  Team 6064D, with Christian Espinal, Shanna Bragg, and Brandon Coloiacovo had the highest scoring robot from the North Pointe’s high school team making 40 points on its own.

The tournament was made up with 24 teams  teams competed in 36 matches in a round robin format. North Pointes Robotics team competed with a total of 4 robots, where each robot competed on 6 separate occasions.  At the conclusion of the competition the top 8 scoring robots were allowed to pick 2 robots for their alliance from the next  24 top scoring robots.  The four robots that we took competed reached 4th , 7th, and 8th alliance place in the tournament.

HS Robotics at Madison Highland Prep

On Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Phoenix Madison Highland Prep, Arizona, the North Pointe Robotics team competed in their second  competition of the season. We competed with 4 groups of the high school robotics team. 

In their first year the groups 6064E with Andrew Wells and  Jacob Cauthren, reached finals  and group  6064 with Joanna , Vargas, Alexis Limon, Jose Aquino, and Angelica Bosquez was awarded with the sportsmanship Trophy .  

According  to Ms. Gorosics ” Being for many of them their first year in robotics they have been very dedicated to working hard  and gaining knowledge. I see  a bright future ahead of them for this robotics season”.  

HS Robotics at Casa Grande Union HS

On Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Casa Grande Union High School, Arizona, the North Pointe Robotics team competed in their first competition of the season. In addition, to the 5 High School robot groups,   4 Junior High groups  attended the meet as well to be mentored. 

They are showing a great start of the season reaching semifinals with team 6064E with Andrew Wells, Jacob De La Fuente, Jacob Cauthren, Gabriel Aguirre and Samuel Barber, and team 6064 with Joanna , Vargas, Alexis Limon, Jose Aquino, and Angelica Bosquez.  

The tournament was described as a very intense competition because it is one of the biggest of the year and winning qualified the teams for state. 41 teams competed in 62 matches in a round robin format. North Pointe Robotics team competed with a total of 9 robots, where each robot competed on 6 separate occasions.  At the conclusion of the competition the top 8 scoring robots were allowed to pick 2 robots for their alliance from the next 16 top scoring robots.  Three of our nine robots made alliances, reaching 4th , 7th, and 8th  place in the tournament.

Robotics National Competition

On April 6th the North Pointe Robotics’s team traveled to Council Bluffs, Iowa, for the US Open National Robotics Competition. On April 7th, the team registered, practiced and met with future alliance teams. On April 8th, the actual competition began with 5 matches taking place that day. The team won the first 3 matches, placing them in 3rd place out 87 teams in our division.  Then, the robot had some technical difficulties causing the team to lose the next 2 matches placing them at a lower position. After, students repaired the robot, they won the last match on the 9th of April. The final placing of North Pointe Prep’s Team was 27 out 87 teams.

The Seniors that went to nationals demonstrated the skills learned throughout the years. Evan Tsang was captain and displayed great driving and repairing skills. Breanna Quick demonstrated excellence in driving and logistics. And finally Austin Armstrong performed well in the programming for the robot. All three students remained calm working under the pressure of a national competition.

Evan, Breanna, and Austin are going to use the skills learned in robotics for their future careers.
